Raffles Hotels
Using the SO Feng Shui Design Second Nature® model, Simone created the Feng Shui Wellness Design guidelines for the Raffles 'Design for Harmony' within the 'Emotional Wellbeing' program, which launched in October 2020. These guidelines are now mandatory for all new Raffles hotels, and the principles of the guidelines are being applied to existing Raffles hotels.
Based on the Feng Shui principles Yin & Yang, the Five Elements of Feng Shui and the Qi energy flow, the guidelines included recommendations on purposeful choices of materials, FF&E, lighting, signage, technology, artwork, layouts and colours. The guidelines addressed the effects of the built environment and how it impacts human health and well-being through the senses of sight, sound, smell, touch, familiarity, comfort and safety. Completing this all-around approach to a total wellness concept are the guidelines on electric radiation, magnetic fields, radiofrequency waves and noise levels.
The Feng Shui Wellness Design guidelines covered general rules applicable to all hotel spaces and areas and specific rules for Raffles Iconic spaces. Second Nature® key benefits and impact ratings, and explanatory imagery have yielded a very practical handbook for the design department and individual hotel management alike.
Simone continues ongoing consultancy partnership with the Raffles Design department.
This project was completed in collaboration with Jeanette Ho, Vice President Raffles Brand & Strategic Relationships for Accor Hotels Luxury Division, Federico Toresi, Global Vice President of Design, Luxury & Premium Brands at Accor and Lindsay Madden-Nadeau, Global Director of Wellbeing, Luxury Brands Accor Hotels.
Raffles Maldives, Meradhoo Island
After a total renovation of Raffles in the Maldives and during the pre-opening phase, Simone held a 10-day on-site Feng Shui Wellness Design Consultation. The aim was to increase the well-being factor even further while achieving a successful opening.
The consultation included the island and water villas, spa, F&B outlets, boutiques and General Manager and staff offices being assessed on Feng Shui and wellness principles. A one-day workshop was held with the General Manager and key staff to discuss the findings and implementation of recommendations.
Some recommended changes included bedding material (EMF shielding sheets to reduce radiation around the bed for enhanced sleep experience) and guest villa furniture positioning for a smooth flow of energies to increase familiarity and comfort. Plus, accessories placements such as anti-slip bathmats and outdoor steps for easy access from indoors to outdoors to improve safety, plant positioning for enhanced energy flow, and rearrangement of staff office desks and office furniture (to name a few).
Our recommendations were implemented in guest villas and shared areas to increase well-being, sales and bookings and within staff facilities to enhance well-being for Raffles team members and facilitate efficient collaboration and communication across departments.
This project was completed in collaboration with General Manager Olivier Larcher.
Raffles Seychelles, Praslin Island
During the planning stages of the renovation of Raffles Seychelles, Simone conducted a Feng Shui Wellness Design Consultation, including a four-day on-site assessment and report, to consult on renovation plans, successfully relaunch the resort, ensure Raffles standards and increase the well-being factor.
The report served as a practical handbook for the design department and the hotel management, covering general rules applicable to all hotel spaces and areas and specific rules for Raffles Iconic spaces.
Based on the Feng Shui principles Yin & Yang, the Five Elements of Feng Shui, and the Qi energy flow, the guidelines included recommendations on purposeful choices of materials, FF&E, lighting, signage, technology, artwork, layouts, and colours. The guidelines addressed the effects of the built environment and how it impacts human health and well-being through the senses of sight, sound, smell, touch, familiarity, comfort and safety. Completing this all-around approach to a total wellness concept are the guidelines on electric radiation, magnetic fields, radiofrequency waves, and noise levels.
Simone's suggestions included identity reinforcements, enhanced arrival experience, wayfinding signs, location signs, location layouts, kids club embellishment, and safety measures for raised walkways. Plus, technology standards and furniture positioning in guest villas for a smooth flow of energies to increase comfort, rearrangement of back-office desks and office furniture to enhance staff efficiency and well-being, and recommendations were made to increase bookings and sales.

Simone's on-site assessment and on-spot consultation were held in collaboration with interior designers and included assisting in the selection of Feng Shui-friendly furniture and fit-out material at local suppliers.
Additionally, wellness recommendations were made to address the effects of the built environment and how it impacts human health and well-being through the senses of sight, sound, smell, touch, familiarity, comfort and safety. Guidelines on electric radiation, magnetic fields, radiofrequency waves and noise levels completed this all-around approach to a total wellness working environment.
